Garland Daisy or Crown Daisy
Glebionis coronaria
Seeds per Package: 200
Glebionis coronaria (commonly called Garland Daisy, crown daisy, or chrysanthemum greens) is an annual (sometimes biennial in mild climates) native to the Mediterranean. It’s grown for its cheerful, daisy‑like flowers in shades of yellow and white and for the aromatic, slightly bitter young leaves that are used as a green in Asian cuisines.
Plant Garland Daisy in full sun for best flowering, though it will tolerate light afternoon shade. It prefers well‑drained soil from sandy to loamy with average fertility; avoid waterlogged sites. Moderate moisture during establishment is helpful, but the plant tolerates fairly lean soils and benefits from good drainage to prevent root issues.
Seeds germinate with light, so sow on the surface or press lightly into a fine, moist seed mix rather than burying. Start indoors 4–6 weeks before the last frost or direct‑sow in spring after the danger of frost; germination typically takes 7–14 days. Cold stratification is not required. Succession sowing every few weeks encourages a longer bloom period.
Mature plants reach roughly 12–24 inches (30–60 cm) tall with a spread of about 6–12 inches (15–30 cm); space plants 8–12 inches apart to allow airflow and room to flower. Hardy as an annual in most regions (roughly USDA zones 7–10 where it may self‑sow), Garland Daisy is excellent for borders, mass plantings, and edible/flower gardens. Flowers make pleasant short‑term cut blooms and the foliage is edible when harvested young; blooms and foliage can be pressed or dried for crafts, though they’re most commonly used fresh.
