 ‘Rainbow Loveliness’ (a garden pink — commonly called rainbow dianthus or rainbow pink) is a compact, aromatic perennial (often grown as a short‑lived perennial or biennial) prized for its frilled, multicolored blooms and neat, low mounding habit. Bred from temperate Eurasian dianthus species, this cultivar adds long‑season color and sweet, clove‑like fragrance to rock gardens, edging, and mixed borders.

Plant ‘Rainbow Loveliness’ in full sun for best flowering and fragrance; it will tolerate light afternoon shade but becomes leggy in deep shade. It prefers very well‑drained, gritty to loamy soil with low to moderate fertility and a neutral to slightly alkaline pH—excellent drainage is essential to prevent crown rot. Work a small amount of compost into poor soils but avoid heavy feeding that encourages floppy growth.

Seeds germinate best with light, so surface‑sow or press them lightly into a fine, moist seed mix rather than burying. Start indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost for earlier blooms or direct‑sow after danger of frost; expect germination in 7–21 days. Cold stratification is not required. Thin or transplant seedlings to maintain airflow and reduce disease.

‘Rainbow Loveliness’ generally stays low and neat, about 6–12 inches (15–30 cm) tall with an 8–12 inch (20–30 cm) spread—space plants roughly 8–12 inches apart. Hardy in many regions (commonly USDA zones ~3–8 depending on variety and microclimate), it makes an excellent short‑stemmed cut flower and its blooms press and dry very well for crafts and arrangements.
