Salvia Farinacea “Victoria Blue” - 50 Seeds

Salvia farinacea ‘Victoria Blue’ (mealycup sage, Victoria Blue salvia) is a heat‑ and drought‑tolerant herbaceous perennial (often grown as a long‑blooming annual in colder areas) prized for its upright spikes of vivid cobalt‑blue tubular flowers and attractive gray‑green foliage. Native to Texas and northeastern Mexico, it’s widely used for mass color, borders, containers, and pollinator plantings.

Plant ‘Victoria Blue’ in full sun for best flowering and compact form; it will tolerate light afternoon shade but blooms most prolifically in sun. It prefers well‑drained soil from sandy to loamy with average fertility—avoid waterlogged, heavy clay. Moderate moisture during establishment is helpful; once established it shows good drought tolerance. A light application of compost at planting and occasional balanced feeding supports continuous bloom without encouraging floppy growth.

Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost or direct‑sow after danger of frost. Seeds germinate best with light to a shallow cover and warm temperatures, typically in 7–21 days; no cold stratification is required. Salvias also transplant well from plugs, and regular deadheading promotes longer flowering.

Mature plants typically reach about 18–36 inches (45–90 cm) tall with a spread of 12–18 inches (30–45 cm); space plants 12–18 inches apart to allow airflow and display of flower spikes. Hardy in roughly USDA zones 7–10 (often treated as an annual in colder zones), ‘Victoria Blue’ is excellent for fresh cutting, attracts bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, and makes an outstanding bedding, border, or container plant.
