Angelica gigas – Korean Angelica Seeds
Angelica gigas, also known as Korean Angelica, is a striking biennial or short-lived perennial valued for its dramatic flower heads. In late summer, tall stalks (3–6 feet) produce large, rounded umbels of deep reddish-purple flowers that attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. The bold foliage and architectural form make it an excellent focal point in borders, meadows, or pollinator gardens.
Plant Information:
Type: Biennial or short-lived perennial
Height: 3–6 feet
Spread: 2–3 feet
Light requirements: Full sun to partial shade
Soil: Moist, fertile, well-drained
Bloom time: Late summer to early fall
Attracts: Pollinators (bees, butterflies, beneficial insects)
How to Grow:
Sow seeds outdoors in fall or early spring, as they require a period of cold stratification to germinate. Seeds may also be cold stratified in the refrigerator for 4–6 weeks before spring sowing indoors. Transplant seedlings into moist, rich soil in a location with good drainage. Plants may self-seed under favorable conditions, creating naturalized drifts over time.
Notes:
Angelica gigas is often grown for ornamental use. While some Angelica species are traditionally used in herbal preparations, this variety should be grown primarily as a garden plant unless you are experienced in plant identification and usage.
