Chinese Forget-Me-Not
Cynoglossum amabile
Seeds per Package: About 200

Cynoglossum amabile (Chinese forget‑me‑not) is a charming, fast‑flowering annual (sometimes self‑sowing biennially) prized for its profusion of small, bright blue to sky‑blue funnel‑shaped flowers and rough, hairy foliage. Native to Asia, it’s commonly used in cottage gardens, mixed borders, wildflower meadows, and as an informal edging or filler.

Plant Chinese forget‑me‑not in full sun to part shade; in hot climates it benefits from afternoon shade to prolong bloom. It prefers well‑drained soil from sandy to loamy with average fertility—avoid waterlogged heavy clay. A light dressing of compost at planting is sufficient; excessive fertility can cause lanky growth.

Seeds need light to germinate, so surface‑sow or press them lightly into a fine, moist seed mix rather than covering. Start indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost for earlier blooms or direct‑sow outdoors in spring after danger of frost; germination typically occurs in 7–21 days at cool to moderate temperatures. No cold stratification is required, and succession sowing extends the flowering period.

Plants typically reach about 12–24 inches (30–60 cm) tall with a spread of 8–12 inches (20–30 cm); space plants 8–12 inches apart to allow airflow and room to fill. As an annual it completes its life cycle in one season but readily self‑sows where happy.

Chinese forget‑me‑not is excellent for informal cut posies, cottage‑style bouquets, and massed color in the garden; the delicate blooms press and dry reasonably well for small craft uses. It also attracts bees and other pollinators while in flower.
