Maltese Cross — Lychnis chalcedonica
200 Seeds

Maltese Cross — Lychnis chalcedonica vibrant clusters of red to scarlet star‑shaped flowers on upright stems create bold vertical accents in borders, cottage gardens, and pollinator mixes. Each packet contains 200 seeds. These hardy biennial/short‑lived perennial annualize easily from seed and produce reliable summer blooms when sown in the right conditions; flowers appear from mid‑summer into early fall and are excellent for cutting and attracting bees and butterflies.

Sow seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost or direct sow outdoors in spring after danger of hard frost. Lightly press seeds onto the surface or cover very thinly (1/16–1/8") with fine mix; keep soil temperature around 60–70°F (15–21°C). Germination typically occurs in 7–21 days. Transplant or thin to final spacing once seedlings are established; space plants 12–18" (30–45 cm) apart. Grow in full sun to partial shade, in well‑drained, moderately fertile soil amended with compost. Keep soil evenly moist while establishing, then water moderately—allow the surface to dry slightly between waterings. Expect mature plants about 18–36" (45–90 cm) tall depending on conditions. Deadhead to extend flowering and cut stems for fresh arrangements.
