Zinnia haageana
Seeds per Package: 20

Zinnia haageana ‘Aztec Burgundy Bicolor’ (Aztec Burgundy bicolor zinnia) is an annual ornamental native to Mexico, prized for its compact habit and striking bi‑colored blooms—rich burgundy centers with contrasting lighter edges—that bring bold, long‑season color to borders, containers, and cottage or pollinator gardens.

Grow this zinnia in full sun for the best, longest bloom; it prefers well‑drained soil from average loam to sandy mixes and tolerates moderate fertility—avoid waterlogged sites. Regular watering during establishment helps, but mature plants are fairly drought‑tolerant. A light side‑dressing of compost or balanced fertilizer at planting and midseason supports continuous flowering without promoting legginess.

Seeds germinate readily with warmth and light: surface‑sow or cover very lightly and keep the mix evenly moist. Start indoors 3–4 weeks before the last frost for earlier blooms or direct‑sow outdoors after the danger of frost when soil has warmed; expect germination in about 7–14 days. No cold stratification is needed.

‘Aztec Burgundy Bicolor’ typically grows compactly to about 8–18 inches (20–45 cm) tall with a similar spread—space plants roughly 8–12 inches apart to allow airflow and a full display. As an annual it completes its season in one year but may self‑sow in warm climates.

This zinnia is excellent for fresh cutting—sturdy stems and long bloom time make it a favorite for bouquets—and it also presses and dries well for crafts and dried arrangements. It attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making it both decorative and wildlife‑friendly.
